Thinking of Losing the Pebbledash? Here's What to Expect

Swapping tired pebbledash for a smooth modern render is one of the biggest transformations there is. Here's how it works.

Thinking of Losing the Pebbledash? Here's What to Expect

Pebbledash weatherproofed millions of homes from the 1920s onwards, but decades on it often looks dated, cracks and stains — and removing it for a smooth render is one of the most dramatic upgrades you can make to a home's kerb appeal.

The first question is whether to remove it or render over it. If the pebbledash is sound and well-bonded, a modern render can sometimes go straight over the top. If it's cracked, hollow or blown, it's better removed so the new render has a solid base.

Taking the dash off has a hidden benefit: it lets us see the wall underneath and put right any cracks or damp before the new render goes on, rather than hiding problems.

Then it's your choice of finish — flexible, self-cleaning silicone, tough through-coloured monocouche, or traditional painted sand & cement. We'll talk you through the options and recommend the right one for your walls at a free quote.
