Explained
Silicone vs monocouche render — which is better?
Quick answer
Both are through-coloured so neither needs painting. Silicone is a thin-coat finish applied over an insulated or meshed base coat — flexible, water-repellent and self-cleaning. Monocouche is a thicker, traditional-style render applied in one build-up onto masonry. The best choice depends on your wall and the finish you want.
In more detail
Silicone thin-coat is prized for its flexibility and self-cleaning, water-repellent surface, and it works well over external wall insulation. It's applied as a thin finish over a reinforced base coat.
Monocouche is a thicker, one-through-colour render applied straight onto sound masonry and scraped back to a textured finish — tough, breathable and a common choice on new-builds.
Both avoid repainting. We'll look at your walls and recommend which suits your home best.
